Bariatric surgery cost in Long Island or Brooklyn will depend on a variety of factors, including insurance and your choice of procedure. To get an accurate estimate of what it will cost you, schedule a consultation with us! Most insurance plans cover the cost of bariatric surgery, but check with your insurance company to make sure.
Bariatric surgery is not the right choice for everyone. However, bariatric surgery in Long Island or Brooklyn might be the best option if you’re morbidly obese (BMI > 40) and if you have been largely unsuccessful at losing weight in the past. Bariatric surgery is the most effective clinically proven way to lose weight for obese patients.
To qualify for bariatric surgery, you need to: (1) Have a BMI of over 40 OR (2) Have a BMI over 35 AND be dealing with an obesity-related health condition, AND (3) Have a record of weight loss attempts using diet and exercise but with little lasting success. You will also need to pass a psychological evaluation.
Patients who opt for either gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery can expect to lose, on average, 50% to 60% of their excess weight in the first year after surgery. Excess weight is your current pre-op weight minus your goal “healthy” weight. A 300 pound patient whose goal weight is 150 pounds can therefore expect to lose between 75 and 90 pounds.
